New Delhi April 18 – The relief for the Chinese president was shortlived as Students for a Free Tibet will stage protest demonstration during Chinese President Hu Jintao’s US and Canada visit.

Phayul had earlier reported that the said organisation will not protest Hu. This was told to phayul by a reliable SFT member two days back when there seemed to be an apparent consideration among various SFT chapters to withhold protest but had not met actually to discuss and declare officially.

In a conversation with this reporter, Lhadon Tethong, the head of the organisation, said, “There appears to be confusion about SFT ‘s course of action during Hu Jintao’s visit to the US, SFT will absolutely be protesting. We did seriously consider Kashag’s appeal but we decided twice on two separate occasions that we are going ahead with the protest.”

Phayul’s noteWhether this is a swap in SFT’s decision or a misreporting on our part, it is not clear. But we do apologise for what went wrong.
