BEIJING – An earthquake shook an uninhabited part of China’s Tibet region afternoon, China and Hong Kong’s seismological bureaus said.
The quake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, hit an area between Zhiduo county in the northwestern province of Qinghai and Tibet’s Bange county, an official surnamed Tao from China’s seismological bureau told AFP.
“The quake happened in an uninhabited area” about 670 kilometers (402 miles) north of the Tibetan capital Lhasa, Tao said.
“It was a moderate earthquake…, so far we have received no casualty or damage reports,” he added.
The national seismological bureau’s website said the quake occurred at 5:27pm (0927 GMT).
The Hong Kong Observatory measured the earthquake at 5.5 on the Richter scale.
