Religious leaders take part in the meet
NEW DELHI – The Maha Bodhi Society of India celebrated the 2550th Buddha Jayanti Divas on Saturday by organising a peace conference that brought many religious leaders on a common platform here.
Organised at Mavalankar Auditorium, the “Global Conference for Peace” was attended by delegates from Japan, Sri Lanka and Tibet, among other countries. Religious leaders from different faiths participated in the meet.
While Karmapa Dorje spoke of compassion, kindness and equanimity leading to world peace and harmony while inaugurating the conference, other scholars and religious leaders like Dr. Satyanarayan Goenka, Dr. Samdhong Rinpoche, Lama Zotpa, Lama Lobzang, Archbishop Vincent M. Concessao, Dewan Syed Ali Khan and Chidananda Saraswati laid stress on the need for harmony and brotherhood.
The conference also had an academic session on “Pathways to Peace” in which the leaders expressed their views on religious tolerance and on the need to spread the message of love and brotherhood to all sections of society irrespective of caste, creed and community.
“Peace has been the aspiration of all human beings from time immemorial. Dwelling on the Buddha’s teachings, we firmly believe that there are pathways to world peace that call for inner transformation of the individual, which in turn can lead to transformation of the human society towards the golden ideal of global peace,” said the president of the Maha Bodhi Society of India, Bhupendra Modi.
