Indian Legislators Exchange Ideas with European Counterparts

New Delhi, March 5 – The All Party Indian Parliamentary Forum for Tibet and Bureau of H.H. The Dalai Lama, New Delhi, yesterday hosted a dinner reception in honor of the European Parliament Tibet Inter-group (EPTI)delegation that was on a visit to India. The delegation during their visit to Dharamshala a few days ago had called on His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Mr. Thomas Mann, the president of the EPTI, briefed the gathering about their visit to Dharamshala and meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The delegation told a press conference in Dharamshala that their idea about the Middle Way Approach became much clearer after their meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader.

Indian parliamentarians like Vashist Narayan Singh, Nakul Das Rai, Sachin Pilot, Thupten Tsewang, HT Sangliana, Kiren Rijiju, Nirmala Deshpande, Dawa Norbula and many others were present at the dinner reception.

The members of the European Union had an open exchange of their opinions on Tibet with the Indian parliamentarians. An Indian MP urged the EPTI members to work towards the reopening of the ofice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s representative in Nepal.

Mr. Tenpa Tsering, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the Indian capital, and Mr. Penpa Tsering, member of ATPD and director of Delhi based Tibetan Parliament and Policy Research Centre, were also present at dinner reception.

Mr. Vijay Kranti, a longtime friend of Tibet and a veteran journalist presented his Photo slide show titled “Inside the Colony – Discovering Real Tibet”. The photo slides gave the European legislators a visual journey through the forbidden land. Mr. Thomas Mann said that efforts will be made to have Kranti’s slides shown at the European Parliament. Mr. Vijay Kranti, who has a large archive of photos on post independent Tibet, had captured various aspects of Tibet through his lenses.

The European Parliament Tibet Inter-group (EPTI) had tabled 35 resolutions since its inception in 1989.

The delegation comprised of 11 members of the European Parliament and 20 aides to the members of the EPTI.

The delegation left New Delhi early this morning.
