His Holiness’ Envoys Arrive in Beijing for Fifth Round of Talks

Dharamshala February 15 – As indicated by the Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche during his public talk to new arrivals from Tibet at the Amravati Kalachakara, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s envoys have reached Beijing for the fifth round of talks with the People’s Republic of China.

In a press statement issued today by the office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, private secretary Tenzin Geyche said that “Mr. Lodi Gyaltsen Gyari, accompanied by Mr. Kelsang Gyaltsen and senior aides, arrived in China today for the fifth round of talks on the Tibetan issue.”

Special envoy Lodi Gyari, Envoy Kelsang Gyalsten and their colleagues were given their final instructions on Monday by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Bodh Gaya, where His Holiness is on a visit. Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche was also present at the meeting.

“His Holiness is pleased that the present round of talks, which began in 2002, is the longest process of continued interaction that we have had with the leadership in Beijing,” Mr. Geyche said in the statement.

The statement further said that the envoys have had very candid and serious discussion with their counterparts in the Chinese leadership during the last four meetings.

The task force for negotiation had met recently in Dharamshala for the tenth time.
