President of the Largest Tibetan NGO Quits

Dharamshala January 28 – The president of the Tibetan Youth Congress has resigned with effect from 26 January 2006. The resignation was announced yesterday by the president himself at a press conference at Ladakh Buddh Vihar, Delhi,

Kalsang Phuntsok Godrukpa, who was serving his second consecutive term as the president of the largest non-governmental organization, said in his resignation statement that obstructions from the executive members and lack of sufficient cooperation from his executive members in the implementation of the political activities of the organization has led to his resignation.

On asked about the reaction of the executive members to his resignation Kelsang said he has presented his resignation to the executive members and that he has nothing more to add.

Kalsang completed his schooling from CST, Darjeeling. He served as the treasurer of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Darjeeling, from 1970-80. He finished his post graduation in Economics from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and obtained postgraduate studies in Business Management MBM degree from Kurukshetra University, Haryana. He also was the cashier of RTYC, Chandigarh, and President of Tibetan Freedom Movement, Chandigarh, from 1981-83.

He was a founding member of Songtsen Birjuti Samajic and Sanskritic Sewa Sangh based in Kathmandu, Nepal. He served as the President of RTYC Kathmandu from 1999-2001.In the XIIth GBM of TYC, he was re-elected to the post of President.
