Symposium on Tibet at Delhi University

New Delhi, January 19 – Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch of Delhi University unit organised a symposium titled “Tibet’s problem and ways to find solution” at Tagore hall, Art faculty of Delhi University.

Gathering of more than 120 youths comprising of Indian and Tibetan students studying in Delhi university was presided over by Shri Indresh Kumar founder of Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch and Himalaya Parivar as the chief guest and Mr. Tempa Tsering Representative of H. H. the Dalai Lama in New Delhi as the guest of honor. Other eminent guests present on the dais were Dr K. C.Agnihotri, National Convener Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, Shri Amritlal Sharma City President of BTSM and Shri Banwarilal. Shri Sheshadri Chari former editor of ‘Organiser Weekly’ magazine chaired the meeting.

The meeting began with the lighting of lamp and welcoming the guests by offering Khatak.

Mr. Tempa Tsering gave an overview situation of Tibet: its history, culture and tradition, strategic importance and its fragile environment. While speaking on the Tibetan people’s struggle he said ” Tibet is the only nation in the world whose struggle is completely based on non-violence, if it is not given a due recognition and support by the international community then there would be no one to follow the path of non-violence”. On the ongoing contact building between China and Tibet, he hoped that Chinese leadership would respond positively to the aspiration of the Tibetan people and come to negotiating table without further delay. He also extended gratitude to the people and successive government of India for their continued support.

“Issue of Tibet is not merely a question of forcible and illegal occupation by alien country, it is also an issue of complete annihilation Tibet’s culture, religion and its unique and distinct identity” said Dr. Agnihotri. “Basically China is an expansionist country and it will always pose threat to us as long as it is there on the other side our border” he warned.

Shri Indresh Kumar advised that Tibetan youth must work hard for the day when they would return to their motherland with dignity. On the Sino-India relation he said, ” China has a well known record of fighting with its neighbouring countries. China is a country, who is never been a friend nor will be in future. As such it cannot be trusted”. Speaking on the religious and historical bond between India and Tibet he further said ‘Tibet never belonged to China and it is the duty of every Indian to support the Tibetans in their struggle”.

At conclusion, Shri. Sheshadri Chari expressed his disappointment towards the lack of support for Tibet and said that Tibet is considered as roof of the world and roof should be always in good condition. Therefore, the peaceful and amicable resolution for issue of Tibet is in the interest of whole world”.

Himalaya Parivar decides series of Tibet Awareness Programme.

Himalaya Parivar held its National Convention at Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh on 7th – 8th January 2006. Over 150 representatives from Tibet, Nepal, Manipur, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Uttranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir attended the Convention.

Shankaracharya of Shaktipeeth and Shri Indresh Kumar, the founder of Himalaya Parivar and Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch presided over the first session of the meeting, which was chaired by Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, Vice President of Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch.

Shri Indresh Kumar gave an overview of the organisation’s activities and its objectives. In his speech, he assured that Himalaya Parivar would continue to work for Tibet by organising series of Tibet awareness program until the issue of Tibet is peacefully resolved.

Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok spoke on the significance of Mount Kailash, which came under Chinese control after the occupation of Tibet in 1959. Acharya Yeshi also highlighted the intrusion of around 200 Chinese soldiers in Bhutan, making India unsafe.

The Second session of the meeting dealt with the issue of Tibet and Nepal. Mr. Choekyong Wangchuk, Coordinator of India Tibet Coordination Office spoke at length covering history of Tibet and its strategic & environmental importance to India. He also dealt on the so-called development in Tibet, which he said, were in fact meant for Chinese rather than Tibetans. Speaking on the human right violations in Tibet, he urged the gathering to adopt a resolution and take action against the recent incident of China’s crackdown on Drepung monastery inside Tibet. Shri. Om Prakash Garg gave a details of present situation inside Nepal.

During the third session of the meeting, the representatives of every region presented their Annual reports. Pujas was performed at the bank of river Ganga in the presence of Swami Chitanand, former Member of Parliament at the end of the Convention.

A Resolution was unanimously passed on the 2nd day of the meeting. India Tibet Coordination Office based in New Delhi distributed Tibet related literatures to all the participants. Mr. Tenzin Dawa from ITCO was also took participate in this forth convention of Himalaya Privaar.
