Tatopani, January 2:Nepal’s Rastriya Prajatantra Party president, Pashupati SJB Rana, was prevented from entering Tibet although he had been issued the necessary I-card for getting an entry permit. The incident occurred today on the very first day of the introduction of the card system on the Tibet-Nepal border.
Rana, who was heading for Ramike bazaar at Litin of Tibet’s border area, was stopped by Chinese police without any consideration for his I-card. Rana was issued ID card no. 1, signed by chief of the Tatopani immigration office, Kamal Raj Yogi. An infuriated Rana turned back when he was not given an entry permit even after showing his card.
Around 71 persons of the district received the ID card on the first day of the card system introduction. Even though the immigration office stated that aside from the place of origin certificate and two photographs the I-card fee was only Rs 30, the Nepal-China Miteri Trade Association charged Rs 470 per head under different headings, said locals.
