Dharamshala November 9 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is in Washington D.C for the Mind and Life conference, will call on the US president George W. Bush today. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will also meet the US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and members of the US Senate and Congress. This is the third meeting between His Holiness and president Bush.

Talking to the Voice of Tibet Radio service, Mr. Tashi Wangdi, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New York, said that the US has worked for the human rights situation inside Tibet in the past and that he is hopeful it will continue. Representative Tashi Wangdi hopes that the meeting between the two leaders will be a successful one and that Mr. Bush will be able to exchange views with His Holiness on Tibet and related issues more frankly.

Meanwhile, the Tibetans and their supporters hope that the meeting between the two leaders will prove an impetus for Mr. Bush to raise the Tibet issue during his visit to China later this month.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama, however, has said yesterday that China still continues to be repressive on Tibetans despite talks between his representatives and China underway.
