Dharamshala October 25 – The seminar on China’s National Regional Autonomy began this morning with the symbolic offering of sweetened rice and Tibetan butter tea. Kalon Lobsang Nyandak, minister for Information and International Relations, welcomed the speakers and the participants on his department’s behalf.
Kalon Nyandak said that his department aims to utilize the seminar as a platform to enable an exchange of views and opinions concerning various laws of the People’s Republic of China with reference to the China’s autonomy law. He said that there are different views on the actual implementation of the laws and that those opinions are expected to be raised during the seminar.
Kalon Nyandak also thanked the speakers, some of whom have come from as far as United States and England, for accepting his department’s invitation to share their expert views on the topic. More than a hundred participants gathered to listen to the experts shed light on various topics ranging from China’s regional ethnic autonomy to environment, economy to development to religion, culture and language.
The Kalo Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche told the gathering that his Kashag considers the outcome of the seminar an important resource for the efforts of negotiation with the Beijing government. Rinpoche said that various sciences lead to civilizations which then lead to formation of culture. Rinpoche said that his government’s Middle Way Approach is a means that is favorable both to the People’s Republic of China and Tibet.
