Ludhiana, September 10 – MEMBERS of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) from Dalai Lama’s Charitable Trust presented a colourful Tibetan cultural show, ‘Dances From the Roof of the World’ at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan.
The cultural evening started with dances of Tsang Fagdi area situated in south-west Tibet. The area lies near Mount Everest and the celebration is held every year on July 15.
The artists then presented Lhase Dhang Gar. A legend is associated with this dance which says that once a war started between China and Tibet and the gods and goddesses of Tibet performed this dance following which Tibet won the war and the dance became Tibet’s folk dance.
Besides this, singers from Tibet presented a song depicting the beauty of Kongpo area of Tibet. Ba Tsooi Shaaye Yardo, the folk dance of Bha-Khasta area of Tibet was also presented.
Most of the Tibetans were dressed in fur coats and shoes made up of thick leather, which are worn to keep safe from biting cold.
Prominent among others included prime minister of Central Tibetan Administration of Tibetan government in exile Prof Samdong Rinpoche, Minister of Finance and International Relations Lobsang Nyandak Zayul, Mayor Nahar Singh Gill and president of Indo-Tibetan Hosiery Association Naveen Sood were also present on the occasion.
