Thunderstorms, whirlwinds, depths and shallows, sleepless nights . yet the week aboard the raft was great. A six-person crew of the “Free Tibet” raft started voyage on one of the Vistula tributaries. The raft, constructed by the crew from 12 bus tires, turned out to be resistant to many different and even dangerous situations. “Youngsters are happy but we need to think twice before the next voyage,” said Bozena Ozga-Morawska, one of the crew, after a thunderstorm she experienced aboard the raft.

The initiator and organiser of the voyage on the Pilica river aboard the “Free Tibet” raft, which took place from 27th July to 4th August, was the “Kreska” Gallery for Children and the Youth in Skierniewice, one of Polish towns. The trip was organised under the auspices of the president of Skierniewice, Mr. Ryszard Bogusz. “The idea was noble and my duty is to aid the useful initiatives of citizens”, said president Bogusz. The main purpose of this initiative was to disseminate information about Tibet, occupied by the People’s Republic of China, among the inhabitants of the area and tourists.

“Ladies and Gentlemen,

For a few dozen years Poland has been a completely independent and sovereign country. However, in our hearts we still keep the memory of our history alive, when our homeland was partitioned and occupied by European political and military powers. May the suffering and harm that Polish citizens were forced to go through become our key argument in supporting the activities whose aim is to free Tibet from Chinese occupation!

The occupation of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China causes the oppression of the Tibetan community and continuous persecution of Tibetans for their drive towards independence and for their religion, full of peace and humility.

Let’s join the campaign for Free Tibet!

We, the citizens of Poland, know best what persecution and discrimination for beliefs and faith mean. Let’s help our Tibetan Brothers! It is our duty!”
