Dharamshala August 24 – The Indian Press has watched the Tibet issue closely for the past few decades and more often than not, the Indian public at best got a vague idea about the fate of the Nepali look-alike neighbours. But in the midst of all this, brushes and pencils of the Indian cartoonists painted a different picture, a mixture of various viewpoints on the various developments in the Tibet issue.

“These cartoons are a portrayal of the Indian cartoonists’ view on the Tibet issue. Unlike the Tibetan cartoons in the Tibetan weeklies which is more narrative than pictorial, the cartoons in the Indian Press are much expressive without being too narrative, says Tenzin Tsundue of Freinds of Tibet, which is organising the first ever exhibition of newspaper cartoons by popular Indian cartoonists in town.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Prof. Samdhong Rinoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Tibetan exile government. The exhibition will remain open for four days till August 28.

The cartoons have been travelling all over India since July 6 this year which coincided with the world Tibet Day. It has covered various Indian states. “Indian Cartoonists on Tibet is an exhibition of cartoons on the Tibet issue and the tumultous Indo Chinese relations by renowned Indian cartoonists like RK Laxman, Shankar, Ranga, OV Vijayan, Ravi Shankar etc.
