Dharamshala July 30 – The Election Commission of the Tibetan government in exile has announced the dates for Assembly polls and the elecion for Kalon Tripa (de facto prime minister) yesterday. The preliminary elections for the 14th Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies and the Chairman of the 13th Kashag will be held on September 11, 2005 and for December 22, 2005 respectively. The general elections will be held on March 18, 2006.
This will be the second time that the Tibetan people elect their Kalon Tripa directly. Until His Holiness’ address to the assembly suggesting the Kalon Tripa be elected directly by the people, the kalons elected by the assembly chose from among themslevs a chairman or the Kalon Tripa.
