Tickets for “Global Peace through Compassion,” a public talk by the Dalai Lama at the MCI Center, go on sale through Ticketmaster on Monday, August 1. The November 13 talk will be the only public talk by the Tibetan leader during his 2005 visit to the Washington, D.C. area.

The Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual and temporal leader, is one of the world’s most widely respected moral leaders. He is a tireless proponent of human rights, harmony among religions, universal responsibility, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

In 1959, a failed popular uprising against the Chinese occupation of Tibet forced the Dalai Lama to flee Tibet for neighboring India, where he established an exile government. Since then he has enlisted international support for his efforts to find a solution for Tibet through negotiations with the Chinese government. In 1989, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his “consistent resistance to the use of violence in his people’s struggle to regain their liberty.”

The talk at the MCI Center starts at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 13. Tickets are $15 (with a student ID), $25, $40, $60 and $100. Tickets are available by phone through Ticketmaster at 202-397-7328, in person at Ticketmaster Outlets or the MCI Center Box Office, or online at www.dalailamadc.org.

The talk is sponsored by the International Campaign for Tibet and the Mind and Life Institute.
