March for Tibet’s Independence from Boston to New York

Dharamshala July 27 – 17 persons will walk more than 240 miles for Tibet’s independence starting this Saturday. “March for Tibet’s Independence,” from Boston to New York has support from 50 Tibetan and non-Tibetan organizers from around the world including the World Federation of Taiwanese Associations, Hong Kong Independence Movement, Hong Konger Front, Independence Party of Taiwan, Taiwanese Association of America-U.S.A., World United Formosans for Independence-U.S.A., and Formosan Association for Public Affairs.

The core group of walkers will comprise of 13 Tibetans and 4 foreigners. Venerable Palden Gyatso, veteran political prisoner who spent more than 30 years in Chinese prison, and Jigme Norbu (nephew of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and son of Taktser Rinpoche) who will once again walk as a way to further His father’s lifelong effort to regain Tibet’s independence.

The march will be coordinated by International Tibet Independence Movement in conjuction with the Tibetan Association of Boston and the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-New York and New Jersey. The marchers will leave Boston on July 30 and end on 13 August in New York. The marchers will assemble in front of the United Nations and People’s Republic of China’s Embassy in New York City.

The organisers say that the walk seeks to give Tibetans their rightful independence. It aims to advocate the release of Gendhun Choekyi Nyima (The Panchen Lama), Tulku Tenzin Delek, and other political prisoners of Tibet, say organisers. The organisers urge the supporters to wear the same T-shirt as the walkers to display their solidarity.
