Dharamsala, July 4 – The Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) welcomes the fourth round of talks held between the envoys of H.H. the Dalai Lama and the government of the People’s Republic of China in the Swiss capital, Berne from June 30.
TWA notes that the present talks were held at the embassy of the PRC government in Berne, a neutral location outside China and Tibet. “That the talks are held at a neutral location shows the overwhelming support of the international community in ensuring a negotiated settlement for the Tibet-China problem,” said Mrs. B. Tsering Yeshi, President of TWA.
“Further, we are pleased to see the continuation of the dialogue process started in September 2002 and hope that the present talks will contribute in arriving at concrete and mutually beneficial outcomes,” said Mrs. Yeshi.
However, sincere intentions on the part of the Chinese government in observing real commitment to solve the vexed issue of Tibet are needed. Providing sustainable solution to the Tibetan issue is in the interests of the Chinese government, as well. TWA choose to see the present dialogue process as a step forward, hoping that this is not part of public relations exercise aimed at 2008 Games.
The TWA maintains that the Middle Way approach proposed by H.H. the Dalai Lama forms a pragmatic and optimistic basis for any talks on the future of Tibet.
