Dharamshala June 21 – A Tibetan Chamber of Commerce has been formed at a two day meeting which concluded on 19 June at the Golden Huts Resorts in Gurgaon, Haryana. An eleven-member committee was formed. The Tibetan Chamber of Commerce will have a registered office in Delhi with a four member executive committee. Mr. Dorjee Dewatsang is the chairman of the chamber. Mr. Tsetan Norbu from Nepal is the vice-chairman.
Around 50 delegates from India, Nepal and other areas gathered for the two-day conference which was organised by the Department of Finance of the exile Tibetan Government. Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Finance Kalon Lobsang Nyandak and Special Envoy Lodi Gyari attended the conference.
The finance kalon said that the chamber will function independently and will not be under any influence of the government.
“The Tibetan Chamber of Commerce will be a voluntary association of Tibetan businessmen, which will undertake promotional activities to enhance the business interests of its members”, Sonam Dorjee, a staff of the Research and Policy Unit of the Finance Department, was quoted by Tibet.net as saying. A survey conducted by the Finance Department in December 2004 recommended the setting up of the chamber.
