Exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama signs the Golden Book of the western German town of Marburg on August 3, 2009. The University of Marburg on Monday awarded the Dalai Lama with an honorary doctorate of the foreign-language philology department. The department,which includes the studies of India and Tibet, gave the Nobel Peace Prize award winner the doctorate for his scholarly work that includes several publications in which he “depicted the nature of Tibetan Buddhism in an authentic way that still remained accessible to the general public.” The university reportedly announced its intention to honour the Dalai Lama in 2006.
