HH in Varanasi
His Holiness the Dalai Lama begins Buddhist teachings in Sarnath in Varanasi, Thursday, January 8, 2009. The revered Tibetan spiritual is giving a five-day long teachings on “Kamalashila’s “The Middling Stages of Meditation” (gomrim barpa) and Shantideva’s “A Guide To the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life” (chodjug). More than 20,000 Buddhist followers from around the world, including a sizeable number of Chinese, Taiwanese, Mongolians, Koreans, Russian, and Southeast Asians, are attending the teachings being held at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies. Besides presideing over a dialogue between Buddhist and non-Buddhist philosophical schools while in Varanasi, the Dalai Lama is scheduled to attend the opening session of an “International Conference on Buddhism and Science” on January 16, before finally leaving the city.
