China set to host Buddhist forum to burnish image

China is set to host its first major international forum on Buddhism since 1949 to complement President Hu Jintao’s campaign to build a “harmonious society” and burnish China’s tarnished image on religious freedom.

Dalai Lama to visit Japan from Oct. 30 to Nov. 10

Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will arrive in Japan on Oct. 30 for a 12-day visit through Nov. 10 at the invitation of a Japanese religious group in Hiroshima Prefecture, political sources said Thursday.
